Motor Trend is going way past “click bait” and all the way to passing off something as though it was real when it is not.

Part of me thinks this is like publications finding an “OMG MID-ENGINE VETTE RENDER” on a random website and passing it off as “what a mid-engine Corvette could look like... as imagined by a graphic artist in Hoboken.”
And yet I still think MT deserves all the hate it gets for this — at least from readers. One of the first things I saw on Twitter yesterday about it strongly insinuated that it was some sort of legit scoop.

I do wish that FP would tone it down with the Car Crash posts...

I DO think MT is totally fucked up for what they did...BUT I don’t think it was Jalopnik’s (a Gawker site who lives on clickbait titles and articles) call to criticize them on it...I mean honestly, I bet a few people at Gawker Media (I could totally see it being a Gizmodo post) are jealous that they didn’t do it themselves.

Yep. That. That was the issue we had.
